The Truly Great Album Series part 1
by Treble Staff
06.02.2004
This installment of Truly Great marks the beginning of the Truly Great Album Series. What with the release of Morrissey's new album, You Are the Quarry and this year marking the twentieth anniversary of the realease of The Smiths' debut album, we thought it would be fitting to take a look back at The Smiths' short-lived but highly influential career.
Morrissey, Johnny Marr, Mike Joyce and Andy Rourke left an indelible mark on the music world with their four studio releases and singles collection, Louder Than Bombs. From the lo-fi pop sound of the Pacific Northwest to the new breed of Britpop, few haven't been influenced by The Smiths. And we here at Treble, just can't get enough of the lads.
Well, they ain't lads no more, though it's worth noting that Johnny Marr was only 20 years old when The Smiths was released. How many twenty year olds do you know that have made an album as important and as awesome as that one? I know zero, just to set the record straight.
So anyway, here's the first installment of the Truly Great Album Series. We'll be doing a lot more of these, so keep checking this page for more discographical history lessons in the future.
And now, the albums:
