In Case You Missed It

by Treble Staff

08.07.2007

Boy, that Top 100 list we just ran sure was exhausting to put together, but a lot of fun too. So, to simplify things a bit after such a massive week of nostalgia and musical hierarchal systems, we're offering a look back at nine really good albums that may have initially missed out on due recognition the first time around. Each week we deliberate over albums that are "AOW Worthy," being those that impressed us enough to earn album of the week accolades. Not every album receives such an honor, however, and as such, we have to make some necessary, though disappointing, cuts.

So here are some albums from the past couple months that may not have been elected to our honorable weekly post, but still impressed us all the same.

Arthur & Yu - In Camera (Hardly Art)

"When so few are making records like this today, these ideas seem new all over again."

Dog Day - Night Group (Tomlab)

"Minimal, yet explosive with sonic glee, Dog Day approach each song with as much fight as possible."

Grails - Burning Off Impurities (Temporary Residence Limited)

"Grails have evolved past contemporaries to such an extent that their post-rock brethren will be playing catch up for some time.

Handsome Furs - Plague Park (Sub Pop)

"In actuality it's a pretty rockin' good time, landing Plague Park as a demonstration in legitimate musical talent, not just a nice story that Boeckner and Perry can tell their future grandkids."

Read Review

Immaculate Machine - Fables (Mint)

"Not only is Fables an album that will entertain and force your body into motion, it will also get you thinking and give you well put advice."

Read Review

The Ladybug Transistor - Can't Wait Another Day (Merge)

"Can't Wait Another Day further hones the pop classicism that the band mastered during a lovely little three-album cycle"

Read Review

Oxbow - The Narcotic Story (Hydra Head)

"Like a David Lynch film, the foursome takes the listener through a potent show of skillfully rendered beauty, grisly hellishness and shameless flexing of the avant-garde imagination from both sides."

Read Review

Stars - In Our Bedroom After the War (Arts & Crafts)

"On In Our Bedroom After the War, every word counts between performer and listener, in the musicianship of lyrics and the semantics as well, the meaning carried with them; the listeners are hanging on every word."

White Rabbits - Fort Nightly (Say Hey)

"It's a hell of a fiesta, one that rocks awfully hard, to boot."
