Sleater-Kinney celebrate the catalog

Janet Weiss, longtime drummer for pioneering Washington riot grrrl band Sleater-Kinney, announced her departure from the band on Monday morning, July 1. This comes just ahead of the August 16 release of their new album, The Center Won’t Hold, produced by St. Vincent. You can read Weiss’ statement posted to Twitter below.

In an Instagram post, the remaining band members thanked Weiss for her service and suggested her departure would not impact their tour supporting The Center Won’t Hold.

In addition to being a member of Sleater-Kinney, Weiss has also performed with Quasi, Wild Flag, and Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks. She’s part of Treble’s 50 Favorite Drummers.
