Merge Records 30th anniversary

This year, venerable indie label Merge Records turns 30, and this summer the label is throwing an anniversary celebration, titled MRG30, featuring a number of artists on the label. The event takes place in Carrboro and Durham, North Carolina from July 24–27, and Merge has announced several artists who will be playing the fest. The acts scheduled to play MRG30 so far are Destroyer, Superchunk, Mountain Goats, Waxahatchee, Wye Oak, Titus Andronicus, Lambchop, Swearin’, Fucked Up, Hiss Golden Messenger, Sneaks, and Ibibio Sound Machine.

Tickets will go on sale here on Friday, February 8.

Also part of the 30th anniversary celebration is a subscription service titled Born Under a Good Sign, which has already launched. The first release is a tribute to David Bowie’s “Heroes,” featuring members of Destroyer, Superchunk and Wye Oak, recorded live in 2017. Hear the title track below, featuring vocals from Destroyer’s Dan Bejar.
